Framing paintings, all sorts of glasses, with or without mid frame, mirrors of diferent shapes and sizes all can be done in the shop of Tehnica sticlei (a shop that works in glass) that can be found on Corneliu Coposu Bvd, where had been working since the 90s Mr Dan. The first contact he had with this kraft happened in his childhood thanks to the parents of the workman that had shown him the steps in working with glass. At first we reject what we receive from our parents, but after some years passed Mr Dan has strongly realised what valuable gift his parents had made him, and now he proundly speaks about the orders that arrive in the shop.

Calm, having each day something nice to say and always wearing a shirt at the shop, Mr Marin is for many a surprise because just the pieces of threads forgotten on his jumper say that he is a tailor. He is one of those tailors that see their kraft as a form of art and that treat with respect each step of the making. The shop is located at the ground floor of an apartament building right beghind the Court House, away from the noise of the big bulevard.

This shop of repairing pens is the only one that is left in Bucharest. It is like a treasure for the modern man that still uses pens. Mr Mircea, repairs pens, glasses and rides the bike daily. He is a regular for the media being the only one that still practices this kraft. The nibs (tip of the fountain pen) that have been seen by Mr Mircea have varied deeply from regual school pens to nibs as precious as jewery owned by important politicians that used them to sign hig level papers. Mr Mircea remembers how long the line of people was in front of his shop in Ceauşescu’s regim. The kraft is inherited from his father, everything being coverd in secrecy, because the know how was passed only between family members. Although he is sorry to say this the kraft has ened in the family with him. The number of clients has dropped but the good part is that the quality of the pieces that are waiting in line on the counter has risen.

In the long history of the Coltei street, many shopes have opened and closed down here, the street being a prefered place for trading for the craftsmen of the time. Besides the remaining furrieries, here we can find the tailor shop of Mr. Vasile. Highly-ranked tailor with a vast experience, he analizes with curious eyes the tailoring of the clothes worm by the customers that step into his workshop.

The shoe-shop of Mr. Nicolae is not an ordinary one. He takes not more than 5 minutes to see what the problem is with the product or what the client actually wishes. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, because Mr. Nicolae not only repairs shoes but he creates them from scratch and not just regular shoes. He is specialised in dancing shoes, that as we know, they have to be not only pretty, but also very strong and perfectly fitting on the dancer’s feet. The shoemaker has taught many other shoemakers who, in turn, have their own shops or even shoe factories. After the 90s he has noticed that the craft is in danger of being forgotten and he was more than willing to share his knowledge to whoever was interested, considering that there is enough room for everybody operating in this field.

The tailor shop where Mrs Elena works is the only one left on Stirbei Voda St. Wearing a beautiful smile and all the time ready for starting work, Mrs Elena is that type of a tailor that gets its energy from the moment when the client put his hands on the piece of clothing and is happy with it. “For a tailor, there is no greater satisfaction than that.”

Patterns, wooden lasts, pieces of fabric, rulers, everything that is used in the making, restoration or retouching fur coats we can find here in the workshop located on the old part of Calea Mosilor. The fur workers go around heir daily tasks having above their heads, very close to the ceiling, hanged many fur coats, like in a contemporany art instalation. The fur master, Mr Ion, knows to recognise from a glance a quality fur and can transforme an old one perfectly on the sizes of the new owner. This workshop is one of the last remained on this part of the old street, where only the noise of the tram reminds of how busy the street once used to be.  

 At the main entrance, on the left, in the SIR Complex, works Mr. Moldovan, a watchmaker from the 70s. Mr. Moldovan knows very well the system of trades, during the communist period, he went through all the stages of specialization, working both in the village and in the city.  

Mr. Vasile is not satisfied with doing only one job, for this reason he does universal repairs for leather jackets, which he also paints in case they lost their charm. He changes zips, staples, buttons, adjusts jeans and trousers. Hiw workshop doesn’t have a street sign and because of this it can seem closed, but his door is most of the times open.



 Atelierul domnului Maricel pare din stradă un simplu magazin de vânzare încălţăminte. Însă toate încălţările expuse sunt de fapt făcute de el. Domnul Maricel a pornit cu dreptul în cariera de meşter cizmar făcând-o din plăcere şi pasiune şi ajungând să se supraspecializeze prin diferite programe şi mastere, care ţin de cum se lucrează pielea şi cum o determini să ia forma şi culoarea pe care o vrei tu. Meşterului i-ar plăcea să împărtăşească din cunoştiintele lui, el având de-a lungul timpului foarte mulţi ucenici, dar e dezamăgit de lipsa unui sistem care să uşureze viaţa ucenicilor.
