We find Mr. Constantin on Corneliu Coposu Street, behind a very attractive shop facade. Mr. Constantin has been a cobbler for many years now, in the present workshop he has been working already for 26 years. He repairs zips, soles, heel lifts, stitches and does gluing even for purses, which we too often abandon even if we could so easily repair instead.

“Cizmăria mea”, located close to the train station, has been opened for no longer than 2 years by Mr Sabin and it is part of a Craiova-based franchise with the same name. Mr Sabin is a courageous workman who after he realized that working in a big company is no longer fulfilling, has reviewed his options and decided to do something that he truly likes. Hence the shoemaking business. Young, active, Mr Sabin is to be given as an example in the artisans community and even outside of it, when it comes to what does it imply to follow a career.

Mrs Dalila fits lenses and makes small repairs for glasses. Medical optics is nowadays a wide spread business, that is done in a very impersonal way in big clinics. Mrs Dalila on the other hand has been working in this shop from 1983 and enjoys deeply what she does, especially because it’s a challenge for her to help clients to find the perfect pair of glasses. It is a challenge because every person needs are different, the human face being far from perfect, or symmetrical. That is why Mrs. Dalila treats with great attention the particularities of each customer.  

The tailor shop Artim is located door to door with another Artim tailor shop. When the numer of order was bigger, the tailor shops used to be more specialised. But now the tailor working here receive both any kingd of orders, the client being left with the decision which one to choose, the quality of the servicies being the same.

Mrs Valnetina has learnd to sew and make patterns in elementary school, where they had to make bed sheets and uniforms for kindergarden. She is pasionate about tailoring, finding the work at the sewing table very relaxing, seeing how the fabric gets a shape and can be worn. The shop in Tineretului area has been opened for 6 years. Although she has worked in the past for companies that made clothing for exporting, she now preferes to focus soley on retouching evening gowns and mending clothes.
